Shumel 2 / 2 Samuel 23:2-4 “The spirit of the L-rd spoke in me (King David), And His word was upon my (David’s) tongue. The G-d of Israel said, concerning me (David) spoke the Rock of Israel; 'A ruler over men shall be the righteous (man), he that rules in the fear of G-d. And as the light of the morning (when) the sun shines; a morning without clouds, more than the light that follows the rain that falls upon the grass of the earth." The missionary list maker ignores the words in red (in me, my tongue, concerning me). David is speaking about himself – this has NOTHING to do with Jesus. As with the previous “proof text” the list maker conveniently eliminates line 1 which says “And these are the last words of David; the saying of David the son of Jesse, and the saying of the man raised on high, the anointed (מְשִׁיחַ / messiah) of the G-d of Jacob , (David) And the sweet singer of Israel.” Clearly, when line 1 is read, this is King David speaking about G-d and his (David’s) relationship with G-d. It is not a prophecy, and it is not about the messiah (although David is called messiah in line 1 – something no Christian translator points out. They all translate it as “anointed” even though the Hebrew word here is מְשִׁיחַ / messiah. So lines 2 and 3 (which were discussed in the previous post) are speaking of King David (concerning me). Line 4 says “And as the light of the morning (when) the sun shines; a morning without clouds, more than the light that follows the rain that falls upon the grass of the earth.” David is speaking of the about himself and his kingly line. As Rashi wrote “And he assured me that my (David’s) greatness would increase constantly like the light of the morning that grows ever brighter.” CONTEXT. CONTEXT. CONTEXT. Revelations 22:16 is an odd one – it says “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches.I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” We’ve already seen that Shmuel 2 / 2 Samuel 23 is not about the messiah let alone Jesus, but Revelations calling Jesus the “morning star” is an interesting turn of phrase since when this phrase is used in Isaiah 14 (morning star) it is usually translated by Christians as Lucifer. So is Jesus Lucifer? How can both Jesus and Lucifer be the “bright morning star”? Isaiah 14:12 (KJV) has: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer (in Hebrew “Helel, translated as “morning star), son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” If the "morning star" is a reference to the devil in Isaiah 14, how do Missionaries explain Revelations 22:16 where Jesus is called the "morning star" as well? This is indeed an odd passage for a list maker to use to “prove” that Jesus is the messiah, when it actually seems to prove that Jesus might be their mythical devil!
